Writing Your Own Story:
A Workshop in Memoir and Creative Nonfiction
with author Janisse Ray
July 25 - 27, 2014
You've been jotting down ideas. You've been keeping a journal. You've been walking mountain trails, collecting anecdotes and images and metaphors. Now it's time to think about writing with intent and telling your story, in whatever form you desire. This class will cover the basics of personal narrative and memoir. Spend a weekend in an inspiring place with a small group of people interested in writing about real life, our lives, and interested in learning how to do it. In a time of cultural isolation, it is important for ourselves, for each other, and for our communities that we tell our stories. As Plato said, "the unexamined life is not worth living."
The weekend will be a time of personal discovery surrounded by rural landscapes and the natural world. No experience is needed for this workshop. Come with your journal. Janisse Ray will guide workshop participants in a dynamic blend of journaling and writing, dialogue, group discussions, brainstorming, creative thinking, deep listening, and demonstration. By the end of our time together you will have a great start to something big.
The price of the workshop is $390 and includes lodging and breakfast. All rooms are double occupancy rooms with private baths.
